Alex Plante
Alex Plante ( born May 9, 1989 in Brandon, Manitoba ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player on the position of the defender standing since 2009 with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Oklahoma City Barons, in the American Hockey League. His brother Tyler is also a professional hockey player.
Career
Plante began his career with the Brandon Wheat Kings in a unterklassigen Hockey League his home province of Manitoba, before joining the 2004/05 season to the Calgary Hitmen in the Western Hockey League. In the following season he established himself first-team regular in defense of the team. However, he has seen only four points scorer in the season. In the WHL in 2006/ 07 he was able to improve his stats and prepared in the course of the season 30 goals against, with a simultaneous plus / minus score of 18. Also in the play-offs get him 11 points in 13 games. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2007 in the first round to 15th position from the Edmonton Oilers. He stayed two more years on his junior team. After he came only 36 games the following season due to multiple injuries, he almost did not made it into the squad the team. But He then returned in 2008/ 09 with a new personal record of 37 assists in 68 games to his old form back. At the same time he scored with 155 penalty minutes to the most frequently penalized players in the league.
In May 2009, Plante signed an initial three-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. However, he was initially for their farm team, the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League on the ice. On 1 February 2010 he finally gave his first appearance in the National Hockey League, as he also was able to record his first assist in a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. After four games, but he was played back to Springfield in the AHL. There he recorded during his rookie season in 49 games total of 122 penalty minutes and scored nine points.
Prior to the 2010/11 season, the Oilers moved their farm team to Oklahoma City, where it played from now on as Oklahoma City Barons. Also Plante followed the team there. In the following seasons the defense spent most of the season in the AHL, while he was appointed for a three games in the squad the Edmonton Oilers. In the season 2011/12 Alex Plante was appointed to the cadre of the AHL All- Star Classic, where he stood on the starting grid of the Western Conference All-Stars.
