Alexander Thieme

Alexander Thieme ( born January 13, 1954 in Karl- Marx-Stadt ) is a German athlete who - starting for the GDR - was a successful 100 - meter runner. His greatest achievement is the silver medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal with the 4 x 100 - meter relay of the GDR ( 38.66 s, together with Klaus -Dieter Kurrat, Manfred Kokot and Jörg Pfeifer ), for which he with the Patriotic Order of Merit Award Bronze.

Another silver medal in the 4 x 100 - meter relay team, he won the European Championships in 1978 ( 38.78 s, together with Manfred Kokot, Eugen Ray and Olaf Prenzler ).

Both in the 1976 Olympic Games as well as at the European Championships in 1978, he was also in the 100-meter individual race at the start, but he did not reach the finals.

Alexander Thieme served on the SC Karl- Marx-Stadt and trained with Peter Dost. In his playing days, he was 1.86 m tall and weighed 80 kg. After his athletic career Alexander Thieme doctorate at the Technical University of Karl- Marx-Stadt and became a research assistant professor. Later he became a building contractor in Jahnsdorf / Erzgeb.
