Alexandru Nicolescu

Alexandru Nicolescu ( born July 8, 1852 in Tulghes, in the county Csík ( German: Tschick ), Transylvania; † 5 June 1941 in Blaj, Romania) was the Romanian Greek- Catholic Archbishop of Fagaras and Alba Iulia.

Life

Alexandru Niculescu studied at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome where he was ordained in 1904 as a doctor of philosophy and theology doctorate and priest celibacy. His first pastoral duties took him to the mission in North America. He then became professor of moral theology at the archbishop's Theological Seminary in Blaj and member of the Metropolitan Chapter.

On February 25, 1922, he was appointed Bishop of Lugoj. He was consecrated on 18 June 1922 in the Trinity Cathedral of Blaj by the Metropolitan Archbishop of Fagaras and Alba Iulia Vasile Suciu. Co-consecrators were Valeriu Traian Frentiu, Bishop of Lugoj and Iuliu Hossu the Bishop of Gherla, Armenopoli, Somes - Újvár In the cathedral of Lugoj he was installed in his bishopric on 16 July 1922.

On August 29, 1936, he was appointed the successor of Vasile Suciu the Metropolitan Archbishop of Fagaras and Alba Iulia

On June 5 ( the week before Pflingsten ) 1941 died Archbishop Alexandru Nicolescu and was buried in the crypt of Holy Trinity Cathedral Blaj.
