Alexei Haieff

Alexei Hajew (usual transcription Alexei Haieff, born August 25, 1914 in Blagoveshchensk; † 1 March 1994) was an American composer of Russian origin.

Hajew emigrated to the USA in 1931, where he studied at the Juilliard School of Music with Rubin Goldmark and Frederick Jacobi. He completed his education in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and at Fontainebleau with Nadia Boulanger. Since 1967 he was composer -in-residence at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

He composed a ballet, three symphonies, a violin and a piano concerto, chamber music and Slavic liturgical chants.
