Alexei Ivanovich Abrikosov

Alexei Ivanovich Abrikossow (Russian Алексей Иванович Абрикосов; * 6 Januarjul / January 18 1875greg in Moscow, .. † April 9, 1955 ) was a Soviet pathologist, member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1939 and the Academy of Medical Sciences the USSR, he was also Vice- President of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR since 1944. Life and work

1899 ended Abrikossow his medical studies at the University of Moscow. From 1904 to 1918 he worked there as a lecturer. From 1920 to 1953 he was a professor at the Medical Faculty of Moscow University. From 1944 to 1951 he was Director of the Institute of Normal and Pathological Morphology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR He was one of the founders and since 1938 Honorary Chairman of the Moscow Society of Pathology.

His main works were devoted to pathological anatomy. The granular cell tumor that was first described by Abrikossow ( " About fibroids, starting from the striated voluntary muscles " In: . Virchows Archives of Pathological Anatomy and Physiology and Clinical Medicine, 1926, 260, pp. 215-233 ), is also called Abrikossoff tumor or Abrikossoff tumor.

Abrikossow also described as the first which later became known as Bland- White- Garland syndrome ( " aneurysm of the left ventricle with abnormal departure of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery in a funsonatlichen child " in: . Virchows Archives of Pathological Anatomy and Physiology and Clinical Medicine, 1911, 203, pp. 413-420 ).

Abrikossow was a member of the CPSU since 1939.

Honors

Abrikossow was awarded the USSR State Prize (1942 ), two Order of Lenin, the Red Banner of Labour and was awarded the Hero of Socialist Labor (1945 ).
