Alexis Guignard, comte de Saint-Priest

Alexis de Guignard, comte de Saint -Priest (* April 27, 1805 in Saint Petersburg, † September 29, 1851 in Moscow) was a French diplomat and historian.

Guignard was a son of the diplomat Charles Armond Guignard and his wife, Sophie Galitzine ( Russian Princess ). His grandfather François -Emmanuel Guignard was one of the last minister and confidant of King Louis XVI ..

Since his father was the governor of Podolia and Odessa was Guignard learned his education there as well and was educated by private tutors. 1822 joined his father from the services of Tsar Alexander I and returned with his family back to France.

During the July Monarchy Guignard was introduced at court and became friends soon with Louis Philippe I. Between 1833 and 1838 he represented the interests of France as an envoy to the courts of Portugal ( Mary II ), Brazil ( Peter II ), Denmark ( Friedrich VI. ).

On January 18, 1848, the Académie française Guignard elected to succeed the late historian Jean Vatout ( armchair 4). He himself followed in 1852 by Pierre-Antoine Berryer on this place.

During a visit with relatives in Moscow Guignard ill and died at the age of 45 years on 27 September 1851.
