Alfonso Domínguez

Alfonso Domínguez, full name Alfonso Enrique Domínguez Maidana (* September 24, 1965 in Durazno ) is a former Uruguayan football player.

Association

The 1.68 meter tall defender Domínguez belonged 1985-1992 squad of Club Atlético Peñarol. During this time he was involved in the years 1985 and 1986 the profits of two Uruguayan championships. With the Aurinegros he also won the Copa Libertadores 1987, he was in all the finals in the grid. In the subsequent World Cup final defeat on 13 December 1987 compared to FC Porto, he was also with from the start. During the Clausura of 1991 and in the Apertura 1993 he led the squad of the Argentinean capital club River Plate. National

Domínguez was also a member of the Uruguayan national team. He made his debut in Celeste on June 19, 1987. His 31st and last international match, he completed on 25 June 1990. A international goal he did not achieve. During this time he participated in the 1990 World Cup, where he was employed in all three group matches and the knockout defeat against Italy. In 1987 he was with the national team South American champions in the Copa América in Argentina. He also was a member of the Uruguayan squad at the Copa América 1989, which ended Uruguay in second place.
