Alfred Gomolka

Alfred Gomolka ( born July 21, 1942 in Breslau) is a German politician ( CDU). He was from 1990 to 1992 Minister of the State of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern.

Life and career

After graduating from high school in 1960 in Eisenach Gomolka studied until 1964 Geography and German in Greifswald. In 1965 he passed his examination for graduate geographers. He then spent a year working as a teacher. However, he soon returned to the University and then worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Geography, Ernst- Moritz- Arndt- University of Greifswald. 1971 here his doctorate (PhD A) with the thesis " Studies on the coast conditions and the coastal dynamics of the Greifswald Bodden " and 1988 finally the habilitation ( thesis B) with the thesis " Studies on geomorphological changes in Bodden shores in the last three centuries, with special consideration of the Greifswald Bodden ". From 1979 to 1984 he was a town councilor for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Greifswald. From 1992 until his retirement in 2008, he was Professor of Spatial Planning and Regional Studies at the University of Greifswald.

Alfred Gomolka is married and has four children.

Party

In 1960 he became a member of the CDU in the GDR. In 1968, he came out again, but was then in 1971 to re-join the DDR block party. From 1974 to 1984 he was a member of the CDU district Board of Greifswald. After the reunification in 1990, and again from 1993 to 2000 he was county chairman of the CDU in Greifswald. He was also a long time member of the CDU Land Executive Committee of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Since November 24, 2009 Gomolka is state chairman of the Senior Citizens Association in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. On the Delegate Assembly he sat down with 23 through to 13 votes against Herbert Kautz.

Member of Parliament

Gomolka 1990 was a member of the first freely elected People's Chamber of the GDR. From 1990 to 1994 he was then a member of the Landtag of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament and here Member of the EPP -ED Group.

Public offices

After the state elections in 1990 led to the formation of a coalition of CDU and FDP. On October 28, 1990 Gomolka was elected to the then Prime Minister of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. From 1991 to 1992 he was President of the Bundesrat as scheduled.

On March 15, 1992, he resigned with effect from 19 March 1992 from his office.

Bremer Vulkan received immediately after Gomolkas detachment with the blessing of the Federal Government and the Trust awarded the contract for the East German shipyards. Until its bankruptcy in 1996, she headed illegally by 350 million euros of EU funding in the West German shipyards, which were destined for the East German shipyards.
