Alfredo Zalce

Alfredo Zalce ( born January 12, 1908 in Pátzcuaro, † January 19, 2003 in Morelia) was a Mexican artist.

Biography

From 1924 to 1927 he studied at the Academia de San Carlos. In 1930 he founded an art school in Taxco ( Guerrero ). From 1931 he studied lithography at Emilio Amero. From 1932 to 1935 he was an art teacher at various art schools in Mexico City. In 1932, the first solo exhibition of the works Zalces took place. In 1934, he founded with other artists the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios ( League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists, LEAR ), in 1937, he was next Ángel Bracho, Alberto Beltrán, Leopoldo Méndez and Raul Anguiano founding member of the Taller de Grafica Popular ( Workshop of the People graphic artist, TGP ). In 1945 he undertook a trip to the Yucatan, Campeche and Quintana Roo. In 1950 he moved to Morelia. In 1952 he became director of the Academy of Morelia. In 1999, he joined the Academia de Artes.
