Alice Pearce

Alicia "Alice" Pearce ( born October 16, 1917 in New York; † March 3, 1966 in Hollywood ) was an American actress.

Life

Alice Pearce spent her childhood in Europe, and returned as adults in the United States. She began to work in nightclubs as a comedian and was on Broadway in the musical On the Town on the cast list.

Gene Kelly was impressed by her performance and gave her in the film adaptation of the musical Nowadays' let's go strolling in 1949 a role in which she sang, among other things on the side of Kelly and Frank Sinatra song Count On Me. Critics and audiences were impressed by Pearce's comedic presentation and Pearce got her own TV show.

From then on many appearances followed in films and Alice Pearce returned sporadically returned to Broadway, where she met her future second husband Paul Davis met during a production of Bells Are Ringing. One of her most famous roles was that of the hysterical neighbor Gladys Kravitz on the sitcom Bewitched, which she played 1964-1966 in a total of 30 episodes. After her death, the part was taken over by Sandra Gould.

Private

Pearce was married twice; In 1948 she married the composer John Rox, with whom she remained married until his death in 1957. In 1964 she married with her stage manager Paul Davis.

On March 3, 1966 Pearce died at the age of only 48 years of ovarian cancer. Her body was cremated and her ashes were scattered over the ocean.
