Allan W. Eckert

Allan W. Eckert ( born January 30, 1931 in Buffalo, New York, † July 7, 2011 in Corona, California ) was an American writer who through his children 's books and his novels Blue Jacket and Tecumseh! was known.

Life

After schooling Eckert joined the U.S. Air Force and made there a four-year military service. After ending his active service, he began studying at the University of Dayton and then at Ohio State University.

In the course of his literary career, he wrote forty books like Blue Jacket, which were translated into 13 languages ​​, and was nominated seven times for this for the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. In addition, he wrote more than 150 articles, essays and short stories as well as screenplays for numerous movies.

With the published 1993 novel, A Sorrow in Our Heart. The Life of Tecumseh, he wrote a biographical account of the life of Tecumseh and described therein, other characters like his older sister Tecumapease.

Most recently he worked on the novel, The Infinite Dream, which should appear as part of The Winning America novel series in late summer 2011. Another, already finished book with the title The Ultimate Treasure is to be published in 2012.

1985 Bowling Green State University awarded him an honorary doctorate ( Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters ), as well as 1998, the Wright State University. He was also a life member, and the temporary trustee of the Natural History Museum in Dayton.
