Alo Mattiisen

Alo Mattiisen ( born April 22, 1961 in Jõgeva; † 30 May 1996 Tallinn) was an Estonian composer.

Life and work

Alo Mattiisen in 1984 a degree in music education and in 1988 his studies of composition at the State Conservatory in Tallinn (now Estonian Theatre and Music Academy ) at Eino Tamberg from. Mattiisen worked as a musician and artistic director of the ensemble in spe.

He achieved fame mainly 1988/89 during the Singing Revolution against Soviet rule in Estonia. His songs 5 ärkamisaegset laulu and egg ole üksi ükski maa became the symbol of the revolution and the violent restoration of Estonian independence. 1988 and 1989 received Mattiisen the annual prize for music as well as the 1996 Cultural Prize of the Republic of Estonia. In addition Mattiisen was also active as a composer. He died early in Tallinn.

Founded in 2006 in Jõgeva decorated in honor of Betti Alver Betti Alveri museum dedicated Mattiisen exhibits in a separate area.

Private life

Alo Mattiisen was married to the actress Rita Estonian Rätsepp. From the union 's daughter Anna- Mariita arose.
