Alois Kälin

Alois " Wisel " Kaelin ( born April 13, 1939 in Einsiedeln ) is a former Swiss skier, who participated in the Nordic combined and cross-country skiing in the 1960s and 1970s in competitions.

Career

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1966 in Oslo, he won behind the German Georg Thoma and Franz Keller the bronze medal in Nordic combined. At the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble, he was behind cellar second in Nordic combined. With the Swiss 4x10 -kilometer cross-country season he won another bronze medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1972 in Sapporo.

Kälin was the first Swiss in the Nordic disciplines reached the podium at the Olympic Winter Games. He is also the date last athlete ever to have won Olympic medals in both the cross-country skiing and Nordic combined. Today he is the owner of a sporting goods store in Einsiedeln ( " Wisel Kälin Sports» ).

During his active career Kälin won a total of four times the Swiss Championship in Nordic combined, as in 1962 in Château d'Oex in 1963 in Einsiedeln, 1966 in Andermatt and 1967 again in Einsiedeln.

Kaelin's brother Stefan Kälin was active as Alpine ski racer and also competed in the Olympic Games.
