Aloys and Alfons Kontarsky

Aloys Kontarsky ( born May 14, 1931 in Iserlohn ) is a German pianist and university professor.

Kontarsky, who already played music as a teenager in a duo with his younger brother Alfonso Kontarsky, studied in Cologne with Else Schmitz- Gohr (piano ) and Maurits Frank (chamber music). Since 1950 he was a participant and later a lecturer at the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt. In 1955, he was with his brother Alfons the first prize for piano at the International Music Competition of the ARD, then he was still studying with Eduard Erdmann in Hamburg.

Since 1957, he was with his brother on tour in Western Europe and has appeared at the Donaueschingen Music Festival, the Holland Festival, the Berlin Festival and other festivals; Since 1966 the duo played annually in the United States. Furthermore, there was extensive tours in the Middle East, South Africa, Japan, New Zealand and Australia and in 1978 after China. Together with his younger brother Bernhard Kontarsky they were observed occasionally as a piano trio. Aloys Kontarsky but also played with Siegfried Palm and Saschko Gawriloff.

Since 1969 he worked as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Köln.

In 1983 he became seriously ill and had to quit his concert career.
