Altaria (band)

Altaria is a Finnish melodic metal band, founded in 2000, among others, by Marko Pukkila and Tony Smedjebacka.

Band History

The first vocals took over Johan Mattjus. Next, the guitarist Jani Liimatainen from Sonata Arctica joined them. Until then, the band was intended more as a project. But from a hobby eventually became a full-fledged band. As the first studio session was over, the three- piece demo Sleeping Visions was distributed to media and radio.

Due to various problems with Johan Mattjus came Jouni Nikula the band during two live shows zuhilfe. Since these performances got pretty good with the new singer, it was at Altaria the first line- up change; we undertook Nikula as a permanent member of the band. In spring 2002 the band went into the studio again to record eight new songs. Four of these were produced under the name Feed The Fire and offered as a download on the Internet. Following the publication of new Demo Altaria all songs climbed the same time in the top 50 of the MP3.com charts. In the fall of 2002 came Emppu Vuorinen from Nightwish as second guitarist to the band. In August 2002, Altaria finally signed a record deal with AOR Heaven and in early 2003 released their debut album Invitation.

The next line- up changes were made after the publication of Invitation. Prior to the Invitation Tour vocalist Jouni Nikula decided to leave the band. Altaria contacted the singer Taage, who also promised the same. With him, the band performed in September 2003 to three times. Based on his work with Nightwish left in January 2004, Emppu Vuorinen the band.

The guitarist Petri Aho offered in January 2004 to provide aid for Finland Tour; so they had instead of just two guitarists. After the tour, Finland Altaria went into the studio to make recordings for the new album Divinity on which two songs are by Jani ( Unchain The Rain, Falling Again). Divinity is considered by fans to be harder than its predecessor, appeared in 2004. Published in 2006 for the album The Fallen Empire stood in another line-up change. Since Liimatainens main band Sonata Arctica claimed much of his time, he could not devote sufficient time Altaria. But with JP Alanen Celesty you found a good replacement for him. In December 2006, left with Taage already the third singer the band. In May 2007, Divine Invitation appeared.
