Geography

Altengamme is the easternmost district of the Hanseatic city and is located on the north bank of the Elbe.

History

Altengamme was first mentioned in documents in 1188. One of the oldest volunteer fire departments Hamburg - founded in 1878 - has its base in Altengamme.
