Altha is a city in Calhoun County in the U.S. state of Florida with 536 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Geography

Altha is located around 15 km north- west of Blountstown and about 90 km west of Tallahassee.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 536 inhabitants distributed in 253 households. The population density was 144.9 inh. / Km ². 95.1 % of the population were white, 1.3% African American and 0.2 % Asian Americans. 1.3% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.1% in different ethnic groups. 4.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 29.2 % of all households lived in 35.6 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 68.9 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.45 persons and the average family size is 2.88 people.

25.7 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 26.7 % were 20-39 years old, 28.0% were 40-59 years old and 19.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 38 years. 46.6 % of the population were male and 53.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 29,167, while 25.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 96.0 % of the population spoke Spanish and 4.0%.

Altha is crossed by the Florida State Road 71. The nearest airport is Tallahassee Regional Airport ( 90 km east ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 142 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There was an assault, two burglaries and nine thefts.
