Calhoun County (Florida)

The Calhoun County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Blountstown.

History

The Cahoun County was formed on January 26, 1838 from parts of Franklin County. It was named for John C. Calhoun, a U.S. Senator from South Carolina.

Geography

The County is located in northwest Florida, is in the northeast about 40 miles from Georgia to the north about 50 km of Alabama as well as in the southwest about 30 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of ​​1,488 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Gadsden County, Liberty County, Gulf County, Bay County and Jackson County.
