Indian River County, Florida
The Indian River County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Vero Beach.
Geography
The county has an area of 1,598 square kilometers, of which 294 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: St. Lucie County, Okeechobee County, Osceola County and Brevard County.
History
The Indian River County was formed on 30 May 1925 parts of St. Lucie County. It was named after the upstream Indian River Lagoon.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Indian River County 138 028 people in 76 433 households. The population density was 105.8 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.3 % White, 9.0 % African American, 0.3% Indigenous and 1.2% Asian Americans. 3.6% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.6% in different ethnic groups. 11.2% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 43.6 % of all households lived in 23.6 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 64.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.26 persons and the average family size is 2.77 people.
21.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 18.2% were 20-39 years old, 26.2% were 40-59 years old and 34.6 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 49 years. 48.4 % of the population were male and 51.6 % female.
The median income for a household was $ 45,274, while 14.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 85.75 % of the population spoke Spanish 9.64 % and 4.61% had a different mother tongue.
