Bay County (Florida)

The Bay County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Panama City.

History

On 12 February 1913, representatives of five cities in the Saint Andrews Bay in Panama City met with the purpose to find a name for the proposed new County. They agreed on the name of Bay County, as this was the kennzeichendsten for the territory.

On 1 July 1913, the Clay County was formed from parts of Washington County, Calhoun County and Walton County. The birth of the new county was celebrated in the city park due. The city park is now known as " McKenzie Park".

The first meeting of the new administration was on 10 July 1913 in rented rooms above the Bank of Panama City. The foundation stone for the new courthouse was laid in December 1914, which was completed in 1915. On 20 December 1920, it was almost completely destroyed by a strong fire, but rebuilt.

Parts of the 1936 designated National Forest Apalachicola National Forest extend County.

Geography

The county has an area of ​​2,676 square kilometers, of which 698 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jackson County, Calhoun County, Gulf County, Walton County and Washington County.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Bay County 168 852 people in 99 650 households. The population density was 85.4 inhabitants per square kilometer. The median income for a household was $ 47,364, while 13.3 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 92.29 % of the population spoke Spanish 3.37% and 4.34% had a different mother tongue.
