Mexico Beach is a city in Bay County in the U.S. state of Florida with 1,072 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Mexico Beach is located on Florida's Gulf Coast. The town is located about 35 km southeast of Panama City and 150 km south-west of Tallahassee.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 1,072 inhabitants distributed to 1,852 households. The population density was 315.3 inh. / Km ². 93.1 % of the population were white, 1.9% African American, 0.4% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 0.8 % were members of other ethnic groups and 3.1% in different ethnic groups. 2.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 42.1 % of all households lived in 13.1% of all households with persons at least 65 years. 56.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.90 persons and the average family size is 2.43 people.

12.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 16.2% were 20-39 years old, 30.2% were 40-59 years old and 41.2 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 55 years. 48.5 % of the population were male and 51.5 % female.

The average annual income was $ 46,853, while 15.1 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.96 % of the population spoke Spanish and 1.04%.

Traffic

The town is crossed by U.S. Highway 98. The nearest airport is Tallahassee Regional Airport ( around 150 km northeast).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 327 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were four injuries, 28 burglaries, 35 thefts and car theft.
