Springfield is a city in Bay County in the U.S. state of Florida with 8,903 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Springfield is bordered by the cities of Parker, Callaway and Panama City and is located about 150 km west of Tallahassee.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 8,903 inhabitants distributed to 4,238 households. The population density was 794.9 inh. / Km ². 66.0 % of the population were white, 23.8 % African American, 0.7 % Native American and 3.8 % Asian Americans. 2.0% were members of other ethnic groups and 3.8% in different ethnic groups. 5.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 23.7 % of all households lived in 33.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 63.5 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.52 persons and the average family size is 3.07 people.

27.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.5% were 20-39 years old, 25.6% were 40-59 years old and 18.0 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 35 years. 49.4 % of the population were male and 50.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 36,693, while 21.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.74 % of the population spoke Vietnamese 3.01% and 4.25 % had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

The city is on U.S. Highway 98 ( SR 30A) and the Florida State Road 389 crosses. The nearest airport is Tallahassee Regional Airport ( about 150 km east ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 423 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There was a murder, five rapes, ten robberies, 43 injuries, 126 burglaries, 208 thefts, 19 car thefts and one arson.
