Callaway is a city in Bay County in the U.S. state of Florida with 14,405 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Callaway is adjacent to the cities of Parker and Springfield. The city is located about 5 km east of Panama City and about 140 kilometers west of Tallahassee in the East Bay, a lagoon on the Gulf of Mexico.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 14,405 inhabitants distributed to 6,590 households. The population density was 979.9 inh. / Km ². 71.7 % of the population were white, 18.2% African American, 0.7 % Native American and 4.1% Asian Americans. 1.5% were members of other ethnic groups and 4.5 % of various ethnicities. 5.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 23.2 % of all households lived in 34.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 68.7 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.52 persons and the average family size is 2.96 people.

25.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.3 % were 20-39 years old, 28.0% were 40-59 years old and 18.2 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 37 years. 49.7 % of the population were male and 50.3% female.

The average annual income was $ 50,598, while 10.0 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.97 % of the population spoke Spanish 2.09% and 3.94% had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

Callaway is crossed by U.S. Highway 98 ( SR 30A ) and the Florida State Road 22. The Tallahassee Regional Airport is located approximately 140 km east of the city.
