Suwannee County, Florida

The Suwannee County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Live Oak. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

History

The Suwannee County was formed on December 21, 1858 from parts of Columbia County. It was named either in reference to the Spanish San Juan or after the Cherokee Indian word Sawani (echo - flow).

Geography

The county has an area of ​​1,792 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hamilton County, Columbia County, Gilchrist County, Dixie County, Lafayette County and Madison County.
