Walton County (Florida)
The Walton County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is DeFuniak Springs.
History
The Walton County was formed on December 29, 1824 from parts of Escambia County. It was named for George Walton, a secretary of the Florida Territory in 1821 bis in 1826.
Geography
The county has an area of 3,206 square kilometers, of which 467 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered to the west by the Okaloosa County and on the east by the following counties: Holmes County, Washington County and Bay County.

According to the census in 2000, lived in Walton County 40,601 people in 16,548 households and 11,120 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 88.41 percent White, 6.98 percent African American, 1.28 percent Native American, 0.45 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.75 percent from other races groups; 2.09 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.17 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 16,548 households out of which 26.4 percent of children and adolescents under 19 years living with them. 53.0 percent were married couples living together, 10.1 percent were single mothers and 32.8 percent were non-families. 27.1 percent of all households and 10.1 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.83 persons.
21.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.1 percent between 18 to 24, 28.5 percent between 25 and 44, 26.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.8 percent of the population was 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 105.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.0 males.
The median income for a household was $ 32,407, and the median income for a family $ 37,663. Males have a median income of $ 26,799, women $ 21,208. The per capita income was $ 18,198. 11.6 percent of families and 14.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
