Franklin County (Florida)
The Franklin County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Apalachicola.
History
The Franklin County was established on February 8, 1832 from parts of Jackson County and named after Benjamin Franklin.
Parts of the 1936 designated National Forest Apalachicola National Forest extend County.
Geography
The county has an area of 2,687 square kilometers, of which 1,277 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Gulf County, Liberty County and Wakulla County.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Franklin County 11,549 people in 8,652 households. The population density was 8.2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 82.6 % White, 13.8 % African American, 0.5% Indigenous and 0.2 % Asian Americans. 1.3% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.7% in different ethnic groups. 4.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 34.3 % of all households lived in 26.0 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 64.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.29 persons and the average family size is 2.79 people.
18.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.0% were 20-39 years old, 28.5% were 40-59 years old and 24.7% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 42 years. 57.6 % of the population were male and 42.4 % female.
The median income for a household was $ 37,428, while 22.2 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 93.10 % of the population spoke Spanish 5.12% and 1.78 % had a different mother tongue.
