East Point is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Franklin County in the U.S. state of Florida with 2,337 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

East Point is situated 10 km east of the town of Apalachicola, which is achieved through the John Gorrie Memorial Bridge on the other side of the Apalachicola Bay. Tallahassee is located about 100 km northeast. The CDP is traversed by U.S. Highways 98 and 319 and Florida State Road 65.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 2,337 inhabitants distributed to 1,166 households. The population density was 123 inh. / Km ². 96.9 % of the population were white, 0.1% African American and 0.7 % were Native American. 0.5 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.7% in different ethnic groups. 1.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 28.8 % of all households lived in 35.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 74.4 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.61 persons and the average family size is 2.94 people.

26.9 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.7% were 20-39 years old, 27.1% were 40-59 years old and 23.2% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 39 years. 51.6 % of the population were male and 48.4 % female.

The average annual income was $ 40,850, while 19.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.46 % of the population spoke Spanish and 1.54%.

Education

East Point is within the Franklin County School District. The main school building of the county is the twelve vintages comprehensive Franklin County School is located in East Point.
