Carrabelle is a city in Franklin County in the U.S. state of Florida with 2,778 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Carabelle located approximately 35 km northeast of Apalachicola and about 80 km south of Tallahassee. The city is named after the Carrabelle River, which flows into the Gulf of Mexico.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 2,778 inhabitants distributed in 988 households. The population density was 286.4 inh. / Km ². 69.5 % of the population were white, 27.6% African American, 0.3% Native American and 0.4 % Asian Americans. 0.6 % were members of other ethnic groups and 1.5 % of various ethnicities. 8.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 34.8 % of all households lived in 29.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 64.1 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.34 persons and the average family size is 2.78 people.

11.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 46.3 % were 20-39 years old, 27.3 % were 40-59 years old and 14.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 36 years. 75.5 % of the population were male and 24.5 % female.

The average annual income was $ 23,512, while 35.2 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 97.54 % of the population spoke Spanish 1.61% and 0.85 % spoke German.

Traffic

Carrebelle is from the U.S. Highways 98 and 319 (SR 30) crosses on a common cup. The nearest airport is Tallahassee Regional Airport ( 80 km north ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 209 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were seven injuries, 14 burglaries, eight robberies and car theft.
