Columbia County (Florida)
The Columbia County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lake City.
History
The Columbia County was formed on February 4, 1832 from portions of Alachua County and named after Christopher Columbus.
Geography
The County is located in the north of Florida, bordering Georgia and has an area of 2,075 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Baker County, Union County, Alachua County, Gilchrist County, Suwannee County and Hamilton County.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Columbia County 67 531 people in 28 636 households. The population density was 32.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.9 % White, 17.5 % African American, 0.5% Indigenous and 0.9 % Asian Americans. 1.3% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.9% in different ethnic groups. 4.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 29.8 % of all households lived in 32.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 68.7 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.52 persons and the average family size is 3.00.
25.4% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.8% were 20-39 years old, 28.1% were 40-59 years old and 21.7 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 40 years. 51.8 % of the population were male and 48.2 % female.
The median income for a household was $ 37,534, while 19.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 94.21 % of the population spoke Spanish 3.96% and 1.83 % had a different mother tongue.
