DeSoto County (Florida)
The DeSoto County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Arcadia.
History
The De Soto County was formed on 19 May 1887 parts of Manatee County. It was named after a Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. By 1921 it was one of the largest counties in Florida.
Geography
The county has an area of 1,656 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Highlands County, Glades County, Charlotte County, Sarasota County, Manatee County and Hardee County.

According to the census in 2010 lived in DeSoto County 34 862 people in 14,590 households. The population density was 21.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 66.2 % White, 12.7 % African American, 0.4% Indigenous and 0.5 % Asian Americans. 17.7% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.4% in different ethnic groups. 29.9% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 36.8 % of all households lived in 31.8 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 69.1 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.71 persons and the average family size is 3.10 people.
25.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.0% were 20-39 years old, 24.0% were 40-59 years old and 23.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 38 years. 56.6 % of the population were male and 43.4% female.
The median income for a household was $ 35,683, while 26.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 71.53 % of the population spoke Spanish 26.66 % and 1.81 % had a different mother tongue.
