Arcadia is a city and also the county seat of DeSoto County in the U.S. state of Florida with 7,637 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Arcadia is located about 120 km southeast of Tampa.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 7,637 inhabitants distributed to 2,541 households. The population density was 727.3 inh. / Km ². 52.9 % of the population were white, 25.2% African American, 0.5% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 18.1% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.6% in different ethnic groups. 33.2 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 25.3 % of all households lived in 42.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 65.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.79 and the average family size is 3.35 people.

32.7 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.9 % were 20-39 years old, 22.4% were 40-59 years old and 15.8 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 31 years. 50.8 % of the population were male and 49.2% female.

The average annual income was $ 30,449, while 33.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 78.17 % of the population spoke Spanish and 21.83 %.

Traffic

Arcadia is from U.S. Highway 17 (SR 35) and the Florida State Road 70 crosses. The nearest airport is Sarasota- Bradenton International Airport ( around 100 km to the west ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 543 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the high range. There were seven rapes, 21 robberies, 68 injuries, 86 burglaries, 147 thefts, 14 car thefts and three arson.
