Hardee County, Florida
The Hardee County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wauchula.
History
The Hardee County was formed on April 23, 1921 from portions of DeSoto County and named after Cary A. Hardee, Governor of Florida from 1921 until 1925.
Geography
The county has an area of 1,653 square kilometers, of which three square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Polk County, Highlands County, DeSoto County, Manatee County, and Hillsborough County.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in Hardee County 27 731 people in 9,742 households. The population density was 16.8 nbsp; inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 72.0 % White, 7.0 % African American, 0.6 % Indigenous and 1.1% Asian Americans. 17.1% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.0% in different ethnic groups. 42.9 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 29.5 % of all households lived in 41.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 74.9 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.12 and the average family size is 3.52 people.
31.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.9 % were 20-39 years old, 23.5% were 40-59 years old and 17.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 33 years. 53.6 % of the population were male and 46.4 % female.
The median income for a household was $ 36,115, while 29.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 59.73 % of the population spoke Spanish 37.36 % and 2.91 % had a different mother tongue.
