Hamilton County (Florida)
The Hamilton County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jasper.
History
The Hamilton County was formed in 1827 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named after Alexander Hamilton, the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury.
Geography
The county has an area of 1,345 square kilometers, of which twelve square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Columbia County, Suwannee County and Madison County.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Hamilton County 14,799 people in 5,743 households. The population density was 11.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 59.8 % White, 34.5 % African American, 0.6 % Indigenous and 0.5 % Asian Americans. 2.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.7% in different ethnic groups. 8.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 30.9 % of all households lived in 32.0 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 69.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.54 persons and the average family size is 3.05 people.
22.7 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 30.0% were 20-39 years old, 28.0% were 40-59 years old and 19.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 38 years. 58.9 % of the population were male and 41.1 % female.
The median income for a household was $ 36,875, while 22.6 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 91.80 % of the population spoke Spanish 6.89% and 1.31 % had a different mother tongue.
