Hendry County, Florida

The Hendry County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in LaBelle.

Geography

The county has an area of 3,082 square kilometers, of which 96 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Palm Beach County, Broward County, Collier County, Lee County, Charlotte County and Glades County.

History

The Hendry County was formed in 1923 from parts of Lee County and named after Captain Francis A. Hendry, one of the first settlers.

Demography

According to the 2010 census, the then 39.140 inhabitants distributed to 14,564 households. The population density was 13.1 inh. / Km ². 59.9 % of the population were white, 13.4% African American, 1.7% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 21.6% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.7% in different ethnic groups. 49.2 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 26.6 % of all households lived in 43.5 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 73.7 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.09 and the average family size is 3.48 people.

31.0 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.8 % were 20-39 years old, 24.3% were 40-59 years old and 15.9 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 33 years. 54.2 % of the population were male and 45.8 % female.

The average annual income was $ 37,989, while 26.0 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 58.34 % of the population spoke Spanish 40.22 % and 1.44 % had a different mother tongue.
