Harlem is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Hendry County in the U.S. state of Florida with 2,658 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Harlem is bordered to the south on the town of Clewiston and is located approximately 50 km east of LaBelle and 150 km north- west of Miami.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 2,658 inhabitants distributed in 966 households. The population density was 1,063.2 inh. / Km ². 2.1% of the population were white, 95.8 % African American and 0.2 % Native American. 0.9% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.0% of different ethnicities. 3.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 25.3 % of all households lived in 48.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 72.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.02 and the average family size is 3.60 people.

36.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.8 % were 20-39 years old, 24.2% were 40-59 years old and 15.4 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 30 years. 45.7 % of the population were male and 54.3 % female.

The average annual income was $ 17,378, while 52.1 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.62 % of the population spoke Spanish and 1.38%.
