Clewiston is a city in Hendry County in the U.S. state of Florida with 7,155 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Clewiston is located on the southwestern shore of Lake Okeechobee and is located approximately 50 km east of LaBelle and 150 km north- west of Miami.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 7,155 inhabitants distributed to 2,684 households. The population density was 591.3 inh. / Km ². 61.4 % of the population were white, 12.7% African American, 0.8 % Native American and 2.3% Asian Americans. 19.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.9% in different ethnic groups. 48.7 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 24.6 % of all households lived in 43.2 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 75.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.03 and the average family size is 3.36 people.

30.7 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.4 % were 20-39 years old, 25.5% were 40-59 years old and 16.6 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 34 years. 51.4 % of the population were male and 48.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 40,371, while 15.2 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 63.11 % of the population spoke Spanish and 36.89 %.
