Lafayette County (Florida)
The Lafayette County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mayo. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
History
The Lafayette County was formed on December 23, 1856. It was named after the French Marquis de Lafayette, who had fought under George Washington in the Revolutionary War.
Geography
The county has an area of 1,419 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Suwannee County, Gilchrist County, Dixie County, Taylor County and Madison County.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Lafayette County 8,870 people in 3,365 households. The population density was 6.3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.4 % White, 15.9 % African American, 0.4% Indigenous and 0.1 % Asian Americans. 4.7% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.4% in different ethnic groups. 12.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

23.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 33.6 % were 20-39 years old, 26.5% were 40-59 years old and 17.0 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 36 years. 61.8 % of the population were male and 38.2 % female.
The median income for a household was $ 44,180, while 20.8 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 91.21 % of the population spoke Spanish 6.97% and 1.82 % had a different mother tongue.
