Gadsden County, Florida

The Gadsden County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Quincy.

History

The Gadsden County was formed on June 24, 1823 from parts of Jackson County and named for James Gadsden of South Carolina.

Geography

The county has an area of 1,369 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Leon County, Liberty County, Calhoun County and Jackson County.

According to the census in 2010 lived in Gadsden County 46 389 people in 19,506 households. The population density was 34.7 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 35.9 % White, 56.0 % African American, 0.3% Indigenous and 0.5 % Asian Americans. 5.9% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.3% in different ethnic groups. 9.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 28.0 % of all households lived in 34.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 70.2 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.61 persons and the average family size is 3.12 people.

26.8 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.6% were 20-39 years old, 29.0% were 40-59 years old and 19.7 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 39 years. 48.8 % of the population were male and 51.2 % female.

The median income for a household was $ 35,593, while 29.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 91.01 % of the population spoke Spanish 7.91% and 1.08 % had a different mother tongue.
