Chattahoochee is a city in Gadsden County in the U.S. state of Florida with 3,652 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Chattahoochee is located on the border with Georgia in the north of Florida. On the edge of the city, the Flint River and the Chattahoochee River unite to Apalachicola River, which empties into the Gulf of Mexico to approximately 180 km. The city is located around 25 km north- west of Quincy and about 60 km northwest of Tallahassee.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 3,652 inhabitants distributed to 1,155 households. The population density was x inh. / Km ². 44.6 % of the population were white, 51.5 % African American, 0.2% Native American and 1.0 % Asian Americans. 1.5% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.2% in different ethnic groups. 3.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 32.8 % of all households lived in 30.7 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 64.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.33 persons and the average family size is 2.93.

17.5 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.3% were 20-39 years old, 38.7 % were 40-59 years old and 19.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 45 years. 60.8 % of the population were male and 39.2 % female.

The average annual income was $ 37,308, while 48.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 96.01 % of the population spoke Spanish and 3.99%.

Chattahoochee is crossed by U.S. Highway 90 (SR 10). The nearest airport is Tallahassee Regional Airport (around 60 km south-east ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 272 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were three robberies, 36 injuries, 14 burglaries, 28 thefts and two car thefts.
