Gretna is a city in Gadsden County in the U.S. state of Florida with 1,460 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Gretna is located 5 km northwest of Quincy and about 40 km northwest of Tallahassee.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 1,460 inhabitants distributed in 583 households. The population density was 298 inh. / Km ². 4.6% of the population were white, 83.8 % African American and 0.6 % Native American. 10.0% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.0% of different ethnicities. 13.3% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 26.6 % of all households lived in 42.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 78.6 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 3.01 and the average family size is 3.40 people.

32.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 28.6 % were 20-39 years old, 25.2% were 40-59 years old and 16.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 33 years. 46.4 % of the population were male and 53.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 28,393, while 35.0 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.19 % of the population spoke Spanish and 7.81%.

Gretna is on U.S. Highway 90 (SR 10) and the Florida State Road 12 crosses or touches. The nearest airport is Tallahassee Regional Airport ( around 45 km south-east ).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 346 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There was a robbery, 19 injuries, 17 burglaries, thefts and eleven a car theft.
