Sebastian is a city in Indian River County in the U.S. state of Florida with 21,929 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Sebastian is located on the Indian River, which forms part of the Intracoastal Waterway, just off the coast of the Atlantic. The city is located about 140 km southeast of Orlando.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 21,929 inhabitants distributed to 10,815 households. The population density was 670.6 inh. / Km ². 90.5 % of the population were white, 5.3% African American, 0.2% Native American and 1.1% Asian Americans. 1.2% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.6% in different ethnic groups. 7.0% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 42.5 % of all households lived in 24.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 68.0 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.30 persons and the average family size was 2.75 persons.
20.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 16.1% were 20-39 years old, 29.2% were 40-59 years old and 34.2% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 50 years. 47.6 % of the population were male and 52.4 % female.
The average annual income was $ 44,235, while 8.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 93.57 % of the population spoke Spanish 3.00% and 3.43% had a different mother tongue.

Traffic
The metropolitan area is from U.S. Highway 1 (SR 5) and crossed by the freight railroad of the Florida East Coast Railway. Close to Interstate 95 passes. The nearest airport is Melbourne International Airport ( 35 km north ).
Crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 210 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were six rapes, eight robberies, 36 injuries, 163 burglaries, 378 thefts and car thefts twelve.
