Vero Beach is a city and also the county seat of Indian River County in the U.S. state of Florida with 15,220 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Vero Beach is on the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River, which forms part of the Intracoastal Waterway. Port St. Lucie is located about 40 km south Orlando and 160 km northwest of the city.
Demographics
According to the 2010 census, the then 15,220 inhabitants distributed to 10,258 households. The population density was 530.3 inh. / Km ². 87.5 % of the population were white, 4.8% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.8 % Asian Americans. 3.8% were members of other ethnic groups and 1.8% in different ethnic groups. 10.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.
In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 42.4 % of all households lived in 18.6 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 52.6 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.01 persons and the average family size is 2.65 people.
17.5 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.2% were 20-39 years old, 27.6% were 40-59 years old and 35.9 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 51 years. 48.7 % of the population were male and 51.3 % female.
The average annual income was $ 40,950, while 16.5 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 92.25 % of the population spoke Spanish 5.17% and 2.58 % had a different mother tongue.
Traffic
Vero Beach is from U.S. Highway 1 (SR 5) and the Florida State Roads A1A and 60 crosses. In addition, the railway line of the Florida East Coast Railway runs through the town. The nearest airport is about 55 km to the north Melbourne International Airport.
Crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 247 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were four rapes, 22 robberies, 46 injuries, 179 burglaries, 425 thefts, 24 car thefts and one arson.
