Blountstown is a city and also the county seat of Calhoun County in the U.S. state of Florida with 2,514 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Blountstown is located approximately 70 kilometers west of Tallahassee.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 2,514 inhabitants distributed to 1,045 households. The population density was 302.9 inh. / Km ². 67.6 % of the population were white, 27.9% African American, 0.9% Native American and 0.5 % Asian Americans. 1.1% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.1% in different ethnic groups. 2.8% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 37.1 % of all households lived in 34.1 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 63.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.39 persons and the average family size is 3.03 people.

26.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 20.9% were 20-39 years old, 22.9% were 40-59 years old and 30.1% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 43 years. 44.8 % of the population were male and 55.2 % female.

The average annual income was $ 31,892, while 24.6 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 98.01 % of the population spoke Spanish 1.32% and 0.66 % spoke German.

Blountstown is crossed by the Florida State Roads 20, 69 and 71. The nearest airport is Tallahassee Regional Airport ( around 70 km).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 111 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) in the low range. There were six injuries, three burglaries, 27 robberies and two car thefts.
