Altichiero

Altichiero da Zevio (also Aldighiero ) ( * ca 1330 in Zevio; † in Verona about 1390 ) was a Veronese painter of the 14th century. Under the influence of Giotto di Bondones he worked in Verona and Padua, where, together with Jacopo d' Avanzi, he worked on behalf of the noble families Scaliger and Lupi part.

Altichiero is regarded as the founder of the Veronese school.

In Padua let Bonifacio Lupi de Count of Soragna founded by him in 1372 of Jacob, after receiving the relics of Pope Felix 1503 Felix called chapel in the Basilica of St. Anthony (Padua) of Aldighiero and the Bolognese painter Avanzi decorate with frescoes. Except for a large fresco of the crucifixion, the first sole major work Aldighieros, one sees here scenes from the legend of St. James the Great.

The style of the crucifixion is a great, serious, reminiscent in many ways of Giotto's manner in terms of expression, movement and group formation as well as the dramatic element. The pursuit of naturalness gives the compositions a pleasing freshness. The drawing is simple, great and determines the coloring already multiple modeling capable. More importantly, these properties show the artist in its frescos in the building built in 1377 after the death of Count de Lupi Raimondino Oratorio di San Giorgio in Padua, where besides scenes from the Passion of the key elements of the St. George's legend is presented.
