Älvsbyn Municipality

Älvsbyn a community is (in Swedish: kommun ) in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten.

Geography

The community Älvsbyn extends approximately 60 km along the river Pite River. The area on both sides of the river valley is hilly and rich in lakes. Center of the municipality is Älvsbyn. Other towns are Korsträsk, Vidsel, Vistheden and other smaller villages.

Economy

Agriculture and forestry are mainly of some importance in the community. In the capital of the province are two major industrial enterprises, AB Älvsbyhus and Polarbageriet AB. In Vidsel is a military testing ground. Also, tourism has gained in the last few years. A popular destination is the nature reserve Storforsens ( rapids ) on the course of the Pite River west of Vidsel.
