Amalia of Saxony, Duchess of Bavaria

Amalia of Saxony (* April 4, 1436 in Meissen, † November 19, 1501 in Rochlitz ) was a princess of Saxony and by marriage Duchess of Bavaria -Landshut.

Life

Amalia was the eldest of the children of the Elector Frederick II of Saxony (1412-1464) from his marriage to Margaret ( 1416/7-1486 ), daughter of Duke Ernst of Austria.

Amalia married on March 21, 1452 in Landshut Duke Louis IX. of Bavaria- Landshut ( 1417-1479 ). As will also be the wedding of the son, was the marriage to the 22,000 guests were invited, celebrated with great effort. 1451/52 women's room had been increased to the west wing of the castle Trausnitz as Duke's main residence for the bride and her entourage. 1463 Amalia received from her husband Castle Burghausen assigned as a residence, for which he also issued an extensive and rigorous Hofordnung. Amalie is considered one of the founders of the Holy Spirit Church in Burghausen.

After the death of her husband Amalia of Bavaria left again. From the compensation for their Witwengut she received from her son a year 800 Rhenish florins. Amalia acquired them from their brethren office and Rochlitz Castle, where she lived with a large entourage and also the chapel was rebuilt. The Duchess is buried in the cathedral of Meissen.
