Amleto Novelli

Amleto Novelli ( born October 18, 1881 in Bologna, † April 16, 1924 in Turin ) was an Italian actor who gained through numerous silent films international notoriety.

Life

Novelli debuted in 1906 as a stage actor at the Teatro Tiberino. Three years later, he was taken by the Italian film company Cines under contract. After several roles in short films Novelli received major roles in several period films and epics under directors such as Mario and Enrico Caserini Guazzoni. Especially the cooperation with the latter brought Novelli some international successes: In 1913, he played the lead role of " Marcus Vinicius " in Sienkiewicz film Quo Vadis, the same year and Mark Anthony in the style similar to Shakespeare Peplum Cleopatra, the mistress of the Nile? 1914, the title role in the first film biography of Caesar Caio Giulio Cesare, which until his assassination 44 traces the life of the Roman politician and military leader of its youth BC. In addition, he portrayed Pontius Pilate in Giulio Antamoros Christ movie. In sixteen years of artistic creation Novelli participated in over 100 film productions and played the male lead opposite popular divas of his time as Lyda Borelli, Francesca Bertini and Pina Menichelli. Amleto Novelli was buried in the Campo di Verano in Rome.
