Hemmed Glanzeule ( Amphipyra perflua )

The Hemmed Glanzeule ( Amphipyra perflua ) is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of cutworms ( Noctuidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 44-54 millimeters. The forewings are dark brown, light brown root field. The wide outer skirt is yellow brown in color with small black arrows on the shaft line, causing the moths of the related Pyramideneule ( Amphipyra pyramidea ) differs clearly. The transverse lines are doubly serrated, the ring stain very small and light margins, kidneys blemish covered by the dark brown midfield. The hind wings are almost without markings gray brown.

The eggs are spherical with strongly flattened base. They have slightly wavy, strong longitudinal ribs. The eggs are initially yellowish, yellowish gray later.

The caterpillars have a matt light green color with white topline and green white side stripes, which are dissolved in points. On the 11th segment is a pyramid-shaped bumps with broad, yellowish down current lines.

The doll is yellow-brown with a few bristles on the cremaster ( provided with thorns projection at the end of the abdomen ).

Geographical distribution and habitat

The incidence in Germany applies especially to the South, where the species is found occasionally in Bavaria and Baden- Württemberg, but also in Thuringia. It prefers mountainous areas and rises in the Alps up to 1500 meters.

Way of life

The Hemmed Glanzeule forms a generation in which flies from mid-July to early September. The moths are nocturnal, flying on artificial light sources, but are also very eager visitors of baits. The caterpillars are found from April to June. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of various deciduous trees and shrubs, such as Hawthorn, aspen, willow, poplar, elm, hazel, blackthorn and apple. In some areas, privet and honeysuckle are preferred. The species overwinters as an egg.
