Ko Sichang ( Thai: เกาะสีชัง ) is an island in the Gulf of Thailand in the eastern area of central Thailand. Ko Sichang is located in the west of the province Chonburi district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) Koh Sichang, consisting mainly of the island ( Ko) Sichang there.

Description

Ko Sichang is located about 12 kilometers off the west coast of Amphoe Si Racha. It offers a more peaceful atmosphere, which is also supported by the fact that which is only about one meter wide along the coast road leading to and thus is only suitable for bicycles and motorcycles.

During the reign of King Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ), two Buddhist temples ( Wat ) were built on the island, Wat Tham Yai Prik ( Thai: วัด ถ้ำ ยาย ปริก ) and Wat Nimit Atsadang ( Thai: วัด อัษฎางค์ นิมิตร ). The latter is equipped with a chapel on the European model. On the island there is also a Chinese pavilion with dragon and peacock representations and Chakrapong Cave, where you can climb up through a kind of chimney to the summit of the hill.

On the opposite side of the island of Hinklom - beach lies ( Thai: หาด หิน กลม ), the beach of round stones.

History

The Kings Mongkut (Rama IV ), Chulalongkorn ( Rama V ) and Vajiravudh (Rama VI. ) Came to the island to recover here. King Chulalongkorn ordered the construction of a royal summer palace. After his son was born on Ko Sichang he called the palace Phra Chuthathut Palace ( พระ จุฑา ธุช ราชฐาน ). In 1900 the palace was expertly dismantled and in Bangkok in newly furnished Dusit Palace again, which today is located behind the Old Parliament building ( the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall ). There he is now called Vimanmek Palace ( the heavenly palace ) and is the largest teak building in the world. It houses three floors of 81 rooms, halls and ante-room is furnished with memorabilia of the royal house of the late 19th century. The teak is covered in many places with gold leaf. The palace is visited by numerous tourists groups.

The extensive park grounds of the Palace Ko Sichang there are still several buildings that served as housing for senior officials and guests. Also, located on a hill, visible from afar, a small Chedi, whose construction was given in 1892 by Chulalongkorn in order. The Chedi served as ubosot and was gladly used by the king for meditation: the Phra Chedi of Wat Nimit Atsadang ( พระ เจดีย์ อุโบสถ วัด อัษฎางค์ นิมิตร ).
