Background

  • In 1994, the theme was filmed for the third time: Perfect Love Affair, starring Warren Beatty, Annette Bening and Katharine Hepburn. This version differs little from the second version, especially the dialogue at the end is taken literally. Although the romantic music of Ennio Morricone is the Hugo Fried Hofer keep up, but otherwise is Warren Beatty just not Cary Grant and Love Affair no An Affair to Remember.
  • The great love of my life actually consists of two parts, or rather, from a comedy and then out of a melodrama. First, Deborah Kerr is loose, lively and quick-witted, as they no longer looked for You and no other. Then, about from her visit to Janou, it is pathetic, affected and emotional.
  • The viewers it was made similarly. If they are initially enthusiastic about the apt dialogues, they must resort to increasingly later handkerchief. Especially the last 20 minutes of stretch us to an agonizing torture rack, because it still does not come to a happy ending. You want to help, but you can see powerless.
  • The song passages in which Deborah Kerr et al " An Affair to Remember " "sings" Marni Nixon was the voice double. She was in The King and I for that matter. The film composer and arranger Alfred Newman was of the opinion, in no other, the interplay between vocal and facial expressions did so well as these two.

Reviews

  • Leo McCarey (Director): The difference between Love Affair and the love of my life is quite simply the between Charles Boyer and Cary Grant. Grant could not hide, which is why the second version is much funnier his exceptional sense of humor.
  • Geoffrey Wansell: As the great love of my life in July 1957, in the cinemas, bleated the critics of his " old-fashioned affectation ." The "New Yorker" newspaper wrote that the film was " terribly sentimental ", and "Time" underlined that only Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant had kept with her acting performance this sugary Posse from suffocating in their maudlin packaging. The " Los Angeles Times " had only praise for the film and its director left.
